Arcane Season 2 was officially announced shortly after the first season premiered on Netflix. While details for the second season are still being kept under wraps, we already know that Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung will return to voice their respective roles of Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn Kiraman. Now, fans are wondering when Season 2 will be premiere.
Will Arcane Season 2 be released on Netflix in 2022?
Sadly, those hoping that the story of Arcane will continue in 2022 will be disappointed to hear that Season 2 will not be released on Netflix this year. Over on Twitter, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent confirmed that the Arcane Season 2 will not be released in 2022. However, he did assure fans that they won’t have to wait 6 years (the time it took for them to develop Season 1).
It’s likely that Riot and studio Fortiche Productions already have the story mapped out for Season 2, and possibly beyond, but a series with high production and stunning animation will surely take a long time to develop. Hopefully, they won’t rush the sophomore season because we want it to be as great as the first, or even better. Despite Netflix slashing its animation department amid subscription losses and flatlining share prices, Riot Games confirmed that Arcane is still “full steam ahead” for Season 2. Speaking to Dexerto, Riot Games confirmed Arcane is completely divorced from Netflix—the company “fully produces the series” with French studio Fortiche. As expected, Arcane Season 2 is not included in the list of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in November 2022, and it probably won’t be released by the end of this year.
What to expect from Arcane Season 2?
When creative designer Alex Yee was asked what fans can expect from the relationship between Vi and Caitlyn in Season 2 of Arcane, he told BAFTA:“I think I can figure out how to answer this with the correct degree of vagueness!" Alex continued: “We have always wanted to tell an organic story about Caitlyn and Vi that feels like it’s really true to how we see them, you know, and how they’ve been seen. “The way in which we want to roll that story out has always been determined. So what you will see in Season 2 will be part of the big picture that we’ve had all along.” During Netflix’s Geeked Week, Jinx voice actress Ella Purnell acknowledged working on Arcane Season 2 but didn’t share any information about what will happen.
Netflix released a new five-part documentary mini-series that will give us a behind-the-scenes look at Arcane, and it’s titled Arcane: Bridging the Rift. It was released on the official YouTube channel of Riot Games in August. You can watch the first part of Arcane: Bridging the Rift here:
