Variety has reported that The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito is joining the cast of The Electric State. He will be playing the Marshall, who is described as “a robotic drone manned by Esposito’s character remotely and tasked with hunting down the robot aiding Brown’s character on her quest.” In addition, Everything Everywhere All at Once star Ke Huy Quan has also been cast to play the doctor that Brown’s character needs to find, taking over the role from Michelle Yeoh, who departed due to scheduling conflicts. Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thorton are also tapped to voice sentient robots. They are all joining the ensemble that already includes Brown, Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Terry Notary, Brian Cox, and Jenny Slate. The latter two were cast for voice roles.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote the last two Avengers films and The Gray Man, are writing the screenplay. The Russo Brothers will also produce the film along with Mike Larocca, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall. Filming is currently underway in Atlanta. The film, which is based on the acclaimed 2018 illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag and set in an alternative America in the mid-1990s, centers on “a young girl traveling across the country in the wake of a civil war between humanity and the robots that once served them, looking to find her missing brother.” It is exciting to hear these talented actors join the cast of the film since they add a lot of caliber to the project. It is interesting to see how they will all play out in their respective roles. Considering the people that are involved in this project, it has huge potential to be another hit for the streamer just like The Gray Man.
