However, as it turns out, they had a different idea for the next Deadpool film as Reynolds revealed in a recent interview with Big Issue that there were plans to do a Deadpool-led Christmas movie. However, it didn’t end up happening due to Disney’s acquisition of Fox. “I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie. Four years ago [Deadpool co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool,” he said. “But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made,” He added, “Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”

It is interesting to hear that Reynolds and his team previously have plans to do a Christmas-themed Deadpool movie which may surprise some people since it doesn’t sound like an idea that they would even consider for the character, especially in a movie format. Obviously, it sounds like they won’t ever revisit the idea anytime soon since they are going in a totally different direction for the character’s third cinematic outing. However, there is potential that they could explore it as a special presentation format on Disney+ instead just like the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. For now, you can get your Ryan Reynolds Christmas-themed fix in his latest film Spirited which is currently streaming on Apple TV+ where he does a lot of song and dance numbers just like what he was originally proposing for the Deadpool Christmas movie.
