On the remake’s official website and Twitter account, the voice actor for the Oyuki was revealed. In case you haven’t seen the original, Oyuki is the snow queen from Neptune with a calm yet icy personality. Given her cold demeanor, it should come as no surprise that this Urusei Yatsura remake character is voiced by Saori Hayami, the voice of Yor Forger from Spy x Family. While Yor isn’t a cold-hearted character, she does bring out her icy side when on the job as Thorn Princess. Aside from Yor, Hayami is also a well-known voice actor who has lent her talents to a wide range of TV anime. Hayami is known for her roles such as Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Yukino Yukinoshita from OreGairu, Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui, and Fubuki from One-Punch Man. Popular for her calm and cool voice, Hayami is a great fit for Oyuki given the character’s personality. Regarding her new role, Hayami mentioned that she was excited to voice a character in such an iconic series from her childhood. The upcoming Urusei Yatsura remake is based on the iconic romantic-comedy manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma ½ and Inuyasha. The manga was released in 1978 and got an anime series adaptation in 1981. The series follows Ataru Moroboshi, a high school student with a lecherous streak who is chosen as Earth’s defender from an alien invasion. To defend Earth, Ataru is forced to play a game of tag against the beautiful alien named Lum. Ataru wins the game, though his celebration is misinterpreted by Lum as a marriage proposal. Thus begins Ataru and Lum’s unlikely “marriage.” The Urusei Yatsura remake will release in Japan on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block in October 2022.
